If you’re still clinging to your first i Phone from 2009, Google is giving you one more reason to upgrade.
The company is ending support for its You Tube app on many devices manufactured before 2013, including a number of Apple gadgets, because of upgrades to You Tube’s platform.
The third-generation Apple TV can be upgraded to support You Tube by selecting “Settings,” then “General,” then “Upgrade Software” in the device’s menu.
Google promised to improve the software release fragmentation on Android, but these numbers do not indicate progress but rather some pretty significant regression.
Additionally, Google's clearly articulated commitment to delivering 18 months of updates for new phones has been ignored by its licensees, few of whom have released any major software updates for phone models that are just a year old.
i OS 4 was particularly notorious for heaping too much on the plate of previous devices, resulting in many users complaining that they were better off not upgrading.
Since then, Apple appears to have worked hard to keep older devices from being negatively impacted by new software updates, paring down backwardly supported features when necessary.
